What Is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a way of life. It is a society
of friends and brothers banded together into a Fraternity, for at the
very foundation of Masonry is the precept of the Fatherhood of God and
the Brotherhood of Man. It can be said that our great Fraternity is a
Philosophy of Life.
Fourteen of our nation's Presidents were
Freemasons: George Washington, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson and both
Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt just to name a few. Other Famous Masons
were: John Wayne, John Glenn, Roy Rogers and Roy Acuff. These are but a
few of the celebrities we know well.Ty Cobb, Jack Dempsey, "Sugar Ray"
Robinson are all extraordinary athlete's and Freemasons
Famous Texas Freemasons;
Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston, Anson Jones, Jim Bowie, William B.Travis
and Davey Crockett are but a few of the many men included in our great
Fraternity. Texas has a proud and long history of Freemasonry.
Supreme Count Justices and Judges
John Jay, Earl Warren, Joseph Lamar, Thurgood Marshall, William Taft, and John Marshall.
Since 1789, there have been 108 Justices of the United States Supreme Court.
It s said that up to 40 of them were Freemasons. This means almost one-third of
the Supreme Court Justices were Masons, percentage wise: a larger proportion
than in the general population. Some I’m sure were Masons in name only, however
it appears that several of these men were Masters of their Lodges, and some
were also Grand Masters of their Grand Lodges. One would hope the spirit and
philosophies of Freemasonry had some effect on them, Their were other Masons on
the Supreme Court. This may mean that the decisions of the Supreme Court, which
have had so much of an impact on the lives of all Americans, may reflect some
of the teachings that were learned thru Freemasonry.
As you can see their are some great men, great Masons in our Fraternity, why you might ask?
Perhaps one of the greatest innate qualities of intelligent man is the
desire for self-improvement, spiritual, physical, and mental.
Without question, it is this inbred trait that has led man to his present high level of mental and physical attainment.
Freemasonry offers you this opportunity. To be one, ask one.
